Health Canada has warned that Wetskins and Freshwater children’s rain suits pose strangulation hazard. It says drawstrings in the hood and neck area pose a strangulation hazard and a waist drawstring can pose an entanglement issue.
Consumers should immediately remove the drawstring from these rain suits, Health Canada advises.
Health Canada has expanded its recall for these rain suits which were recalled earlier in August.
“Drawstrings on children’s upper outerwear can become caught on playground equipment, fences, or other objects and result in strangulation, or in the case of a vehicle, the child being dragged,” says Health Canada.
“This recall involves the Wetskins Children’s Rainsuit with drawstrings in the hood and neck area. The Westkins rainsuits are available in sizes S, M, and L and are yellow or red. The Freshwater rainsuits are available in S, M, L, XL and are yellow or blue,” it says.
However, it says that as of October 3, 2019 the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
The products in question were manufactured in China and distributed by World Famous Sales of Canada Inc. Approximately 8,000 units of these product were sold in Canada from 2014 to 2019.
The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away. Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
