A snowfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for Metro Vancouver. The snowfall is expected to begin this afternoon and will continue through Wednesday morning.
Snowfall accumulations will vary across the Lower Mainland, but the heaviest snowfall is expected in North Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Maple Ridge, with 10 to 20 cm and 25 cm over higher terrain.
Heavy snow will transition to rain early Wednesday morning. Strong southwest wind gusts 40 to 70 km/h are also expected and it may cause snow-covered tree branches to break, the agency cautions.
For the city of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Langley, and Abbotsford, 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected. For Richmond and Delta, 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected. For Chilliwack and Hope, 20 to 25 cm of snow is expected from this evening to Wednesday evening.
