I am honoured that Premier Horgan has asked me to take on the role as Minister of State for Infrastructure as expanding infrastructure across B.C. is a key part of our recovery plan.
We already have the largest capital plan in B.C.’s history at $23 billion and we’re going to expand that with an additional $3 billion/year in the recovery infrastructure fund.
My focus will be on major capital projects such as ensuring the Pattullo Bridge is completed and getting the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain expansion underway.
I will also be working with cabinet colleagues, communities, and regions to support the planning and development of key transit projects such as high-speed transit links for the North Shore and the expansion of rail up the Fraser Valley.
The pandemic has turned the lives of British Columbians upside down and we’ve come a long way together, but we have further to go.
This is a hard time for people and we’ll get through it together by continuing to invest in healthcare, by supporting frontline workers, and by everyone doing our part to fight this virus. Our team is ready to continue that work.
The work of this government will be built on the following foundational principles:
- Building a strong, sustainable economy that works for everyone; one that supports workers and businesses through tough times, and creates new opportunities.
- Creating a better future by fighting climate change and working to meet our CleanBC targets.
- Equity and anti-racism—tackling systemic discrimination, breaking down the barriers racialized and marginalized people have faced historically and continue to face today.
- Advancing lasting and meaningful reconciliation, in partnership with Indigenous peoples.
Above all, we will be putting people first. Our priority remains keeping people healthy and safe through the pandemic and building an economic recovery that works for everyone.
