Hiking group dumps injured woman on Coliseum Mountain Trail

This is extremely concerning that a hiking group would leave one member behind and had no plans to contact authorities: North Shore Rescue
Staff report
September 30, 2019 1:21pm

North Shore Rescue had a ‘long chat’ with a hiking group after they left behind an injured member on Coliseum Mountain Trail, above Norvan Falls.

“It is extremely concerning that a hiking group would leave one member behind and had no plans to contact authorities.”

In a social media post, North Shore Rescue said it was called out last night at 7 pm for a female hiker who had suffered an ankle injury on the Coliseum Mountain Trail, and was unable to walk.

NSR deployed teams to the Lynn Headwaters and Rice Lake trail head, where they encountered the rest of the hiking group as they were preparing to leave.

The group said they had split in two groups, three in the fast and two in the slow group.  At some point the man in the slow group left the female behind. It is not clear if he left her before or after the ankle injury.

She was later found by a Good Samaritan who called 911 and help her down the trail where rescue crews were able to provide her first aid and assist her.

North Shore Rescue is thanking the Good Samaritan for calling 911 and assisting the injured hiker until crews came.
