A human-caused wildfire northeast of Lytton has forced the closure of Highway 12 in both directions, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said Wednesday.
The Izman Creek wildfire, listed as K70783, is burning approximately 16 kilometres northeast of the village and is estimated to be 25 hectares in size. BCWS said the blaze is believed to be human-caused.
Multiple ground crews are on the scene, backed by aircraft. The fire is exhibiting Rank 2 to Rank 3 behaviour—an active surface fire with visible open flames, occasional tree candling, and a slow to moderate rate of spread, according to the agency.
Drivers are advised to check DriveBC (www.drivebc.ca) for the most up-to-date road conditions. Updates on the wildfire itself can be found on the BCWS mobile app or its online dashboard.
