District of North Van Firefighter rescued a hypothermic swimmer from Lynn Canyon. The rescue call came at 5 pm on Sunday when a swimmer was reported stuck below the Twin Bridges.
District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services responded swiftly, performing a high-angle rope rescue to pull the man to safety. Assistant Chief David Johnson highlighted the dangers posed by the current conditions, noting the increased water flow due to recent snowmelt and rising temperatures.
Assistant Fire Chief Scott Ferguson told local media the man didn’t know the area and his friends, who were up on the bridge, called 911 and asked for help. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and prioritize safety while enjoying outdoor activities near water bodies.
“Water levels are very high right now with many hazards. Please be safe when recreating in the area,” DNV Fire Service said.
