North Van RCMP has arrested a driver who was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs on Highway 1 near the Mountain Highway exit last week.

The driver is now facing criminal charges for impaired driving.

The arrest came after several 911 calls were made about the driver travelling in the wrong direction, potentially causing a fatal accident, police said. The prompt response of officers ensured that the driver was intercepted before any collision could occur.
“The reckless actions of this driver could have had a deadly outcome. He is facing criminal charges as a result of the decisions he made that night. If you witness a suspected impaired driver, call police as soon as it is safe to do so,” North Van RCMP tweeted.
