Increase in break-and-enters in North Vancouver

STAFF REPORT
September 3, 2020 1:08pm

There has been an increase in break-and-enter incidents to homes and garages in North Vancouver.

Most of these incidents have taken place over the weekends, and North Vancouver RCMP is investigating.

In many instances, the suspects had stolen garage door openers from vehicles parked in the driveway and then used it to gain access to the garage.

Similarly, the garage doors that have been left unlocked or unsecured have also been targeted by thieves.

Many residents are leaving the doors and windows unlocked for ventilation because of the sunny weather, which provided an easy opportunity for thieves to gain access.

The North Vancouver Block Watch is encouraging residents to secure all doors and windows of their homes, and not keep their garage door openers in their vehicle.

Police is also encouraging locals to reinforce all entry points of the home with good deadbolts, install motion-sensor lights, and an alarm system.

All suspicious activities should be reported to the North Vancouver RCMP at the non-emergency line at 604-985-1311.
