Lillooet RCMP responds to call about ‘strange thing in the sky’

Staff report
May 8, 2022 9:49am

Lillooet RCMP responded to a complaint from a woman who saw something strange in the sky.

On April 29 at 11 pm, a woman called the police to report that she was camping when saw a strange thing in the sky. It wasn’t an aircraft or a star, flew strangely and the lights seemed like dashes.

The woman said she was camping at the BC Hydro campsite when she saw what she initially thought was a shooting star with a “long tail to it” but the tail did not dissipate. She was looking toward Mt. Mclean when this happened.

The very bright light came from the West side of Seton Lake and went directly over her, then took a straight path like an air plane, at the speed of an air plane but there were no flashing lights. She claimed it was too long to be an airplane, and the lights were like dashes. The unknown object went East over town and disappeared behind the clouds.

The woman also said she was not wearing her glasses but was adamant it was neither a plane nor a star. Police believed the lights to possibly be the StarLink satellite internet constellation. Officers looked outside to the sky but observed nothing out of the ordinary.
