The District of North Vancouver has announced several park projects this fall, including the closure of the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge.
Starting October 1, the suspension bridge will close for construction on its east approach boardwalk and staircase, which have reached the end of their lifespan and need replacement. The project is expected to finish in mid-December, with the bridge closed for the full duration of the work.
Lynn Canyon Park will remain open during the construction period. Detour signs will be posted on trails throughout the park, but the work will also require periodic closures of the east parking lot off Lillooet Road. Visitors are reminded to obey signage, respect trail closures, and stay clear of work areas.
Other projects are also underway in September.
On the Baden Powell Trail, aging timber bridges over Mission Creek and Dyer Creek are being replaced with aluminum structures. Materials are being flown in by helicopter as weather conditions allow, and work is expected to be completed by October. Meanwhile, playgrounds at Delbrook Park, Eldon Park, and Maplewood Farm are being resurfaced with engineered wood fibre.
The resurfacing is part of the district’s annual program to improve safety and meet Canadian Standards Association standards. The work began on September 9 and is scheduled to be completed by September 19.
