Man arrested after West Vancouver parking dispute turns violent

Staff report
November 18, 2024 3:12pm

West Vancouver Police have reported several property crimes across the district, including vandalism, theft, and break-ins. In the McKechnie Park area, a suspect was arrested following a confrontation over a parked vehicle blocking the roadway. The altercation resulted in the suspect striking and breaking the vehicle’s rear window.

On Cypress Bowl Road, a vehicle parked in a public area was found with its window smashed and ignition damaged, suggesting a possible theft attempt. In Horseshoe Bay, police are investigating after the window of a public office door was smashed. Surveillance footage captured a suspect, and efforts are ongoing to identify them.

Multiple incidents of theft from vehicles were reported, particularly in the Ambleside and Cedardale areas. In Ambleside, a vehicle in an apartment parkade and another parked in a rear yard driveway had their windows smashed, though nothing was stolen. In Cedardale, two separate vehicles parked roadside had their windows shattered. One victim reported a gym bag and clothing were stolen, while another reported the theft of a bag containing gaming equipment.

Two residential break-and-enters were also reported. In the Cypress Bowl Road area, a home was ransacked after suspects gained entry by smashing a balcony door. The residents, returning from a trip, discovered that designer purses, clothing, and jewelry were stolen. No alarm was triggered during the incident. In the Chippendale/Finch Hill area, officers responding to an intrusion alarm found a smashed rear patio door. The suspects had fled before police arrived, and it remains unclear if anything was stolen. Investigations are ongoing.
