A Canada-wide warrant has ended in the arrest of a 53-year-old man accused of swindling a Sunshine Coast woman out of $110,000 in an online romance scam, Sunshine Coast RCMP say.
Investigators allege Michael Paul Snow spent months gaining the woman’s trust before convincing her to invest in a fictitious business venture. “Over the course of several months, Michael Paul Snow gained this woman’s trust and convinced her to participate in a business venture that was later learned to be non-existent,” police said.
After the fraud was reported in June 2023, local officers launched a year-long probe that uncovered “several additional victims,” the detachment said.
Police obtained a charge of fraud over $5,000 and issued a national warrant. On June 24, RCMP arrested Snow from Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He has been released on conditions and is due in Sechelt Provincial Court on August 13.
Sunshine Coast RCMP are urging anyone who believes they had fraudulent dealings with Michael Snow to contact the detachment at 604-885-2266, quoting file 2023-3581, or to reach out to their local police agency.
