A man has been charged with assault following a Vancouver Police investigation into a violent incident on Granville Street Monday afternoon.
The assault happened around 12:30 p.m. on Easter Monday, as the 70-year-old victim was walking near Granville and Smithe streets. Investigators believe he was knocked to the ground, kicked, bitten, and threatened by a stranger.
The victim, who was less than a block from home when the attack happened, borrowed a phone to call 9-1-1. A bystander also called police. VPD officers were working in the area and arrested the suspect nearby. Darren Thomey, 34, has been charged with one count of assault.
