A Squamish man has been fined $4,000 and banned from hunting for four years for shooting a therapy dog near Whistler in 2017.
The man had mistaken the dog for a wolf.
The man pleaded guilty yesterday to hunting without consideration for the life, safety and property of others and hunting wildlife not within an open season.
In September 2017, the BCCOS was contacted by the dog owners after the incident took place. The therapy dog was among a group of dogs being walked by two women in a forested area on Crown land between Squamish and Whistler.
The COS is reminding the public that it is a hunter’s responsibility to be cognizant of their surroundings and other resource users, and to know the regulations.
