Marine Drive will be closed to vehicles between Fell Avenue and Bewicke Avenue on Wednesday, September 9, from 8 pm to 5 am.
The closures are due to the Mosquito Creek Bridge replacement project, which will bring the bridge to modern seismic standards.
This bridge, located on Marine Drive between Fell Ave and Bewicke Ave, is nearing its end of life.
Once complete, the new bridge will offer significant safety and travel improvements for cyclists, pedestrians, transit users and drivers.
During this closure, City of North Vancouver plans to open two lanes westbound and one lane eastbound on the newly constructed south section of the bridge and eliminate the truck detour.
Detours will be in place with traffic controllers on site.
Local residents, however, will have access to Marine Drive from Bewicke Avenue, if required.
Starting today, work crews will remove and reconstruct the northern side of the bridge.
Heavy vehicles will no longer be required to use an alternate route, and left turns will not be permitted at Fell Ave.
Entry and exiting from Mosquito Creek lane will be removed, and bus stops will be moved to accommodate construction.
Pedestrians on the southern side are being asked to use the pedestrian detour bridge or new sidewalk as it becomes available.
Meanwhile, cyclists can choose to take an alternate route, ride with traffic or dismount and walk on sidewalks through the construction zone.
Bus stops will also be moved to accommodate construction.
