Following recent warnings from radiologists about the delay in medical imaging and “the tsunami of cancer cases” the province may be facing, BC Liberal MLA Karin Kirkpatrick is calling for urgent action to address the dire situation as hundreds of thousands of people wait for such critical services.
Kirkpatrick spoke in the Legislature yesterday about the importance of timely medical imaging as she has personally benefitted from mammography screening, which helped detect breast cancer at an early stage and led to her full recovery.
She pointed out key areas that need to be addressed to prevent further deterioration of access to medical imaging, including a health human resources plan to train, recruit and retain technologists, at a time when health professionals in the overall system are facing burnout.
She argued that British Columbians deserve access to care and shouldn’t be dying on waitlists.
Ms Kirkpatrick. We are all aware of the problem. What we need from you is the solution
Yes. Our healthcare system has collapsed! We need a total Re haul! We need it NOW!
You are an alarmist. Our healthcare system has not collapsed. It is in trouble and efforts are underway to fix it. Making the anti vaxxers get vaccinated would have been a good start…and/or making them pay for the emergency services provided to them when they became ill. It is these ignorant people that are largely responsible for the situation.
