Naked man arrested after stranger assault at popular Lower Mainland park

Staff report
May 25, 2025 10:34am

Police have arrested a naked man after he allegedly assaulted a stranger at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody and later threatened people with a knife.

The incident happened on Saturday, May 24, shortly before 10 pm, when several people called 911 about an assault at Rocky Point Park.  A naked man allegedly assaulted another man, then ran into a nearby restaurant where he got a knife and brandished it in a threatening manner.

In a press release, Port Moody Police said officers arrived two minutes after being dispatched and arrested the suspect nearby without further incident. The suspect – a 48-year-old man – remains in police custody at this time, awaiting charge assessment from the B.C. Prosecution Service.

“This incident occurred in a very busy part of our community, and as a result, we have spoken with a number of witnesses already” states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that “thankfully, no one sustained any serious injuries.” Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department and quote file 2025-2186.
