Karin Kirkpatrick, MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano spoke in the legislature about B.C.’s health care crisis and its impact on the North Shore.
Kirkpatrick highlighted that North Vancouver now has the longest walk-in clinic wait times in the entire country, with residents waiting an average of two hours to see a doctor. There is an acute shortage of family doctors as well, with more than 7,600 people on the North Shore on waiting lists, and many more without a doctor.
There is a desperate need for improved access to health care in North and West Vancouver, but unfortunately there was little support allocated for the North Shore in the NDP’s 2023 budget. In her speech, Kirkpatrick called on the NDP government to make investing in health care a priority, both in North Vancouver and throughout the province.

The issue isn’t “more money” as people and politicians alike often say. It’s massive inefficiency as we can see in all levels of Gov. Look no further than the Municipal Govs on the N Shore. BC Health System has ten times the number of administrators per capita than they do in Germany, another Gov pay system. It’s the system that’s broken and the special interests constantly do everything in their power to maintain the system as is. No meaningful changes.
