Neptune Terminals and the Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) have announced a donation by Neptune totaling $100,000 over four years. The funds will be used for local Pacific salmon projects on the North Shore, where Neptune has had its operations for more than 50 years.

Specifically, these funds will be directed to salmon enhancement, habitat rehabilitation, stewardship and public education programs through PSF’s Community Salmon Program. This generous donation from Neptune Terminals will ensure that local Pacific salmon conservation projects get more of the support they need.

“Environmental protection and continuous improvement are core values at Neptune, and priorities of our community and employees,” says Claus Thornberg, Neptune president. “In addition to environmental excellence in our operations, we pursue partnerships that enable us to have a positive impact on local species and environments. We are very excited to work more closely with PSF because we know they have the expertise to identify and prioritize salmon projects that will have the best impact on the North Shore.”

“The support from Neptune Terminals means more can be done for Pacific salmon at a crucial time,” says Michael Meneer, PSF’s President and CEO. “They are important economically, culturally and are a vital part of B.C. ecosystems. PSF is focused on the conservation of healthy, sustainable and naturally diverse populations of Pacific salmon for the benefit of our ecosystems and for all for generations to come. It’s great to work with Neptune Terminals, a local partner who has been an active supporter of local streamkeeping groups and the North Shore community for many years.”

The Community Salmon Program is largely supported through fees from the Salmon Conservation Stamp which is affixed to tidal fishing licenses and required to retain Pacific salmon species in B.C. The Pacific Salmon Foundation receives 100% of Stamp proceeds to redistribute as grants to community groups which are added to donations from businesses, such as Neptune Terminal, and individuals, and proceeds from fundraising efforts.
