New ‘barklet’ opens on Lonsdale Avenue

It is located next to Bosley's, at the corner of 19th Street and Lonsdale Avenue

In fall 2019, a team of students in the School of Business pitched the City on the idea of creating a new Parklet, or mini park, specifically for dogs and dog owners.

The students were thrilled to learn recently that their “Barklet” concept has been adopted by the City and opened to the public.

The Barklet aims to give community members who own dogs a place to meet up with friends and socialize without being limited by their furry friends.

Appropriately, the City has placed the Barklet adjacent to a pet shop – the Bosley’s pet store at the corner of 19th Street and Lonsdale Avenue.

“Having our Barklet project come to fruition is truly the perfect way to wrap up my time at Capilano University,” says Barklet team member Natalie Leclerc, who graduated from CapU with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in spring 2020.

Leclerc says the CityStudio experience offers students valuable lessons in the amount of thought and work that goes into a simple idea.

CityStudio is a joint collaboration between CNV staff and Capilano University faculty and students to explore potential innovative solutions for issues in North Vancouver.

I look right out at this from my place and have never seen anyone use it. It is a waste of money and much needed parking in that area. And if Bosley’s wanted it why not in their parking lot in the back of the store because They did not even want it The City was trying to get a couple of thousand dollars from Bosley’s to put a roof on it. So all the other merchants in the area have to suffer parking shortages so a couple of people can sit with their dog. Stupid idea.
