In a significant step towards addressing the community’s housing needs, the Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society updated the construction progress at a Council meeting on January 27, 2025. Village West, Kiwanis’s newest property, will provide 156 units for families and individuals. It is about five months ahead of schedule and on budget.

Instead of April 2026, Kiwanis is looking to welcome its first residents as early as November 2025. Kiwanis announced the schedule for accepting applications at a recent District of West Vancouver council meeting. Application forms will be available in March, and applications will be processed in July.

Village West is located in the heart of West Vancouver, midway between Ambleside and Dundarave. It aims to provide modern and spacious housing options for families and individuals who live, work and raise their families in West Vancouver. Kiwanis wants to support middle-income households struggling to find suitable accommodations in the area.

The mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units will be offered at a discounted rate of 75% of market rents. The two buildings are designed to meet the highest quality and sustainability standards. This development addresses significant housing needs and enhances the community’s social fabric, fostering residents’ sense of belonging and security.

Kiwanis, known for its unwavering dedication to community service, expressed its deep appreciation for the support of the District of West Vancouver. “This project is a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together,” said Stefan Baune, Executive Director of the Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society. “Our partnership with the District has been instrumental in turning our vision into reality. We are committed to creating a vibrant, healthy community where residents are proud to live.”

“We are proud to support the Kiwanis housing project,” stated Mark Sager, Mayor of West Vancouver, after touring the construction with his Council this week. “This is a critical step towards addressing the housing challenges faced by our community and meeting provincial housing targets. By investing in below-market rental housing for families and working individuals, we are investing in the future of West Vancouver, ensuring that it remains a diverse and inclusive place for all.”

“We are proud to be part of the solution to the current housing challenges,” said Stefan Baune. With over 70 years of experience building and operating below-market housing in West and North Vancouver, Kiwanis has become an essential part of the North Shore community, he added.
