Nine killed after man drives SUV into crowd at Filipino fest in Vancouver

Vancouver Police have arrested a suspect after nine people were killed and several others injured at a Filipino neighbourhood party in South Vancouver.

The incident happened last night around 8:14 pm on April 26 when a man drove into a large crowd attending the Lapu Lapu Day Festival near East 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street. A 30-year-old suspect, a Vancouver man, was arrested at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and led by the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section. Anyone with information is asked to call 604-717-2500.

A 24-hour assistance centre has been established at the Douglas Park Community Centre, 801 West 22nd Avenue. Vancouver Police officers and Victim Services professionals have been deployed to help anyone unable to contact a loved who was at the Lapu Lapu Festival.
