BC Emergency Health Services say no one was injured in the fire at the International Plaza Apartments located at 1959 Marine Drive near Lower Capilano Road in North Vancouver.
EHS reported receiving a call at 1:33 p.m. Monday about a blaze at the high-rise, dispatching three ambulances with primary care paramedics to the scene. “We did not transport any patients to hospital in connection with this incident,” an EHS representative confirmed.
Some media reports said two people were injured, but Deputy Fire Chief Chris Byrom confirmed with the North Shore Daily Post that no patients had been taken to the hospital. “That, unfortunately, was the wrong information I received when I arrived on the scene,” he said.

According to a report in CityNews, the fire started around 1:30 p.m. in a unit on the 18th floor of International Plaza. Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Stewart told media that due to the intensity of the flames, a “North Shore fire call” was issued, which brought in additional firefighting crews from neighboring areas.
“Upon arrival to the unit, they had to [perform] an aggressive fire attack, loading all of their fire equipment supplies and hike up to the 18th floor,” Stewart was quoted in the CityNews report. Fire crews could control the flames quickly, but the unit of origin sustained heavy fire damage, with water flowing down from the 18th floor and affecting multiple units below. Stewart noted that the extent of water damage could displace some residents temporarily.
