Did you receive exceptional care from a staff member at the Lions Gate Hospital?

The Lions Gate Hospital Foundation is encouraging locals to recognize their Health Care Hero by making a donation in a staff member’s name. The Health Care Hero will receive a special Health Care Hero pin and a letter of thanks for a job well done at the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

The foundation recently highlighted its latest Health Care Hero on social media pages. Nicole Compagna, a nurse who has been working in the Labour and Delivery for the last two months, is the newest Health Care Hero. A couple recently made a donation in her honour and described her as “The most supportive, loving, caring nurse who helped the family in the most empathetic way.”

Dayana Otero, a nurse who provides palliative care services at North Shore Hospice and the Palliative Care Unit at Lions Gate Hospital, was the Health Care Hero in February this year. Otero splits her time between the two locations to provide patients with a life-threatening illness with a comprehensive range of support services.

Dayana, a Licensed Practical Nurse, enjoys the relationships she is able to build with patients as the pace of life and care is more measured. “In palliative care you really have to take your time to be with patients. Sometimes just sitting with a patient is caring for them.”

Sheila Bautista and Krista McPhail were nominated as Health Care Heroes last year.
