COVID-19 cases on North Shore have exploded after weeks of relatively small increase in numbers. The latest weekly update shows North Shore added 356 new cases from December 12 to December 18.
As many as 267 cases are from North Vancouver, and 89 are from West Vancouver. With many people struggling to get a rapid test done at the Lloyd Street test centre, it’s possible the actual numbers are much higher.
The explosion is largely driven by the Omicron variant.
Yesterday, BC announced it had diagnosed 756 cases of the Omicron variant, with the majority being reported from Vancouver Coastal Health region.
However, the province didn’t provide any data on the variant today.
Today’s weekly update for North Shor is a stark contrast from the past few weeks when cases seemed to have stabilized. There were 81 cases in the week before, and just 39 cases in the week prior to that. On North Shore, VCH also continues to deal with a COVID-19 outbreak at the Lions Gate Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Province is postponing non-urgent scheduled surgeries starting Jan. 4, 2022, to manage pressure on acute care facilities. However, urgent and emergency surgeries will continue, and rescheduling will be determined through monitoring of capacity and COVID-19 impacts in January.

Vaccines or the booster do not guarantee protection from the virus from hell! It is the combinations of care, Including hand washing (constantly) wearing of mask, stay home if you are sick, build on your immune system with proper food and supplements and NO spitting on the streets! I have seen people are still spitting on sidewalks or at the bus stop. This nasty habit just got to STOP. Spit into a napkin then into the trash or bring your spits home with you. No body want to breathe in your bacteria.
People need to be aware that ‘protection’ from the booster, as with the previous shots, takes 12-14 days! It is NOT an immediate thing.
Therefore, the mask is vital, as well as the hand washing and distancing, etc.
Since this virus is airborne as well, think, when someone lights up a cigarette in a room, or at the an outside table, or wherever, how long does it take the smell to reach you? I wonder how large those airborne ‘droplets’ are in comparison to the airborne COVID molecule? Is the 6 foot distancing really enough?
And for the ‘anti-maskers’.
Did you receive your ‘baby shots’, your school shots, your travel shots?
Did your parent question, ‘what was in those shots?’
Were they aware? Did they want you fully protected from all those childhood diseases that could cause deafness, and any other myriad side effects? Did they want the healthiest child they could raise in this world?
If so, they and the vast majority of care-takers, immunized you.
Have you been free from those diseases?
Respect your parents, your friends and family and all those around.
Ensure ALL OF US will remain healthy and well.
You live in this community.
Please,
RESPECT EVERYONE.
Why do we treat the City and District as a single “North Vancouver”? If we’re going to break out West Vancouver, it would make sense to split out the two North Vans.
