The North Shore Women’s Centre (NSWC) is hosting a winter online auction and hopes to raise $3,500 to help empower women and girls on the North Shore.

More than a $1,000 has been raised since the auction went live today, December 1. The auction will end on December 14.

Some of the auction items include accommodation at Pan Pacific Whistler and the newly opened Seaside Hotel in Lower Lonsdale, as well as gift baskets and tickets to opera.

All of the auction items are generously donated by community-minded businesses, and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go towards operating free Programs and Services that support women and girls in the community.

Those include programs such as the Single Moms Support Group, Health and Wellness Program, Family Law Clinic, and Girls Empowerment Camp.

The women’s centre has between 7,000-8,000 service contacts each year.

“With help from our generous and community-minded donors, we are dedicated to promoting the empowerment of women and girls who are faced with challenges such as poverty, violence, physical or mental ill-health, homelessness, unemployment, isolation, and other difficult life circumstances,” the centre said.

Founded in 1973, the North Shore Women’s Centre operates a drop-in resource centre with access to information, referrals and peer-counseling, as well as a range of programs and services.
