A local auto-body repair shop in North Vancouver is conducting a forensic audit after its network was attacked by ransomware.
In a message to customers, Craftsman Collision said their system was infected by a ransomware on the morning of November 29, 2019.
Ransomware is a malicious malware that locks the user out of their files and prevents them from accessing their data unless a ransom is paid.
By 12 pm, our Information Technology Department immediately shut our network down to protect all data, the company’s CEO, Rick Hatswell, told customers.
“Since then we have been conducting a forensic audit and there is currently no evidence to suggest a breach of customer data either personal (name, address, phone number or email) and/or financial (no credit card information is stored on our network) has occurred,” he said.
Hatswell said no ransom was paid and the company has restored all of its systems. “We want to assure you that our network is highly secure and encrypted with industry leading technology to safeguard you.”
“There is no action for you to take – we take the protection of your personal information very seriously. Please accept our deepest apologies for the worry and inconvenience that this criminal activity has caused.”
