North Van Museum invites people to share COVID-19 stories

Dr. Jessica Bushey
May 28, 2020 5:05pm

The North Vancouver Museum & Archives is inviting the north shore community to be a part of history in the making.

#NorthVanStories: Making Memories Everyday is our latest social media campaign aimed at documenting the experiences of people living and working in North Vancouver during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It’s as simple as: taking an image with your cell phone, adding the hashtag #NorthVanStories and posting it to your favourite social media platform. The NVMA will collect all the posts to create a unique digital collection that will be preserved for future generations to explore, study and understand what happened in 2020 and how we as a community responded to isolation and social distancing.

You can see our growing collection here. Each week we give a suggestion on what to capture and submit.

The first week it was images that represent what you are going through right now, the second week it was an object that is meaningful to you during the pandemic, and this week it is a scrapbook, journal or diary that you are creating while in isolation. Add the hashtag #NorthVanStories to your images, share them on social media, and instantly you are contributing to the historical record of life in North Vancouver during this unprecedented global event.

Remember, the communications of today, if saved, become the archival records of the past. Be a part of history and join together as a community to let the world know how we made it through together #NorthVanStories.

Dr. Jessica Bushey is the archivist at The North Vancouver Museum & Archives.
