North Van music teacher charged with child porn, sexual assault offences

He operated a music business called ‘LA Music Studio’ in Lonsdale area.
Staff report
October 7, 2019 1:41pm

RCMP has charged a North Vancouver music teacher for possessing child pornography and for sexual assault offences involving minors.

The original allegations against Lamar Victor Alviar, a 22-year-old Vancouver man, were reported to have happened in Coquitlam. He operated a music business called ‘LA Music Studio’ in North Vancouver.

Coquitlam RCMP said the circumstance of the case led them to take the unusual step of publishing Alviar’s name and photo.

As a result of that, additional witnesses have come forward to police.

Alviar has now been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Section 163.1(4); one count of possession of child pornography,
  • Section 172.1(1); one count of communicating with a minor to facilitate a sexual offence,
  • Section 151; three counts of sexual touching of a minor,
  • Section 271; three counts of sexual assault.

Alviar’s first court appearance is today, October 7, 2019, in Port Coquitlam. Alviar had no significant police history before these charges.

If you believe that you’ve witnessed or been the victim of any sexual offence, police is urging you to call them. In Coquitlam, the non-emergency number is 604-945-1580, and phone lines never close.
