The North Vancouver RCMP are looking for witnesses and dash-cam footage to further their investigation of a fatal collision involving a Squamish Nation youth.
On March 9th, 2024, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the North Vancouver RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a taxi near North Vancouver. Fire crews and BC Ambulance took life-saving measures, but the pedestrian did not survive and was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation indicates the taxi travelled southbound on Forbes Avenue near West 1st Street when they struck the pedestrian. Impaired driving has been ruled out, but the investigation continues as investigators gather evidence leading up to the collision.
In response to the tragedy, Squamish Nation has mobilized additional resources to extend support during this challenging time. The North Vancouver Youth Centre will remain open until 9 p.m. throughout the weekend, and a dedicated Child and youth Worker will be available on-site for assistance.
