The deaths of a woman and a child who fell from a balcony in North Vancouver last year are now believed to be a murder-suicide, according to a news report by CityNews.
In the report, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said that while the investigation remains open pending the final analysis of some reports, all evidence so far indicates the case was a murder-suicide. “All evidence to date indicates this was a murder-suicide,” IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong told CityNews.
The incident occurred on August 20, 2024, when North Vancouver RCMP were called to an apartment complex on East Esplanade Avenue after receiving reports that two people had fallen from a balcony. According to police, officers found an adult woman and a school-aged child with severe injuries. Despite emergency crews’ efforts to save their lives, both were later pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time, IHIT Cpl. Esther Tupper said the two victims were known to each other and that investigators were not searching for additional suspects.
