North Vancouver ranks second most generous community in Canada

Staff Report
December 12, 2025 10:24am

North Vancouver has been named the second most generous community in Canada for 2025, according to GoFundMe’s annual ranking released Monday morning. The recognition is based on the number of unique donors per capita across the platform, with North Vancouver recording more than 11,300 donors — roughly 19.5% of its population of 58,000.

In a press release, GoFundMe said the ranking highlights communities that “go above and beyond to support others,” especially during a year marked by economic challenges, climate disasters, and global unrest. Victoria, B.C. retained its spot at the top of the list for the third consecutive year, followed by North Vancouver and Vancouver.

The platform reported that Canadians made an average of four donations every minute in 2025. From local fundraisers to national causes, these contributions supported everything from small businesses to medical emergencies and disaster relief efforts.

“Every donation is powered by a deeply human story,” said GoFundMe CEO Tim Cadogan in the release. “This year’s top communities showcase the very best of us — proving that help is inherently human, with friends uniting, strangers stepping in, and entire cities answering the call.”

Among North Vancouver’s standout stories is a campaign led by filmmaker Geoff Livingston and professional freeride mountain biker Steve Vanderhoek, who launched Ride to Resilience — a documentary exploring men’s mental health, trauma, and recovery. The project’s GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $27,000 to date, funding the final stages of the film.

According to Ved Khan, GoFundMe’s Senior Corporate Affairs Manager for Canada, stories like Ride to Resilience represent the compassionate culture that defines the North Shore. “These campaigns show how generosity is not just about giving money — it’s about community members coming together to create impact and spark conversations,” Khan said.

British Columbia dominated this year’s Top 20 list, with seven communities — including Kamloops, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, and Kelowna — making the cut. Toronto was also recognized for raising the most funds nationwide in the Education, Medical, and Emergency categories.

GoFundMe said its data continues to show that Canadians respond quickly and collectively in times of need. “When needs grow, Canadians respond swiftly and emphatically,” Cadogan added.
