North Vancouver RCMP officers seized a machete and arrested a man during a proactive overnight patrol near Capilano Road and Marine Drive early this week, according to police.
In a social media post by North Vancouver RCMP, officers stopped a man riding a bicycle without a helmet at approximately 1 a.m. During the interaction, the man reportedly produced unstamped tobacco, which led to his arrest under the federal Excise Act.
Police said a search following the arrest resulted in the seizure of a machete, which officers believe could have been used to harm others.

According to North Vancouver RCMP, the stop was part of routine proactive patrols conducted during overnight hours, when fewer people are on the streets. Still, officers continue enforcement and public safety efforts. Police emphasized that late-night patrols play a role in removing weapons from public spaces and preventing potential violence, noting that “quiet hours do not mean quiet work.”
