North Vancouver school gets four new classrooms funded by $6 million in provincial investment. Students at Westview Elementary in North Vancouver are learning in 100 new seats following the rapid completion of a prefabricated four-classroom addition — built in under seven months.

In a press release, British Columbia announced the addition broke ground in summer 2025 and opened in February 2026, funded by more than $6 million in provincial investment. The structure was built using a mass-timber panelised system, which officials credited with accelerating construction while delivering a more sustainable and energy-efficient learning environment.

Minister of Infrastructure Bowinn Ma, who also serves as North Vancouver’s local MLA, said the project directly addresses rising enrolment pressure. “These 100 new seats will help meet enrolment growth in the area and give kids the educational experience they need to thrive,” she said.

According to the press release, the Westview addition is part of a significantly larger provincial commitment to North Vancouver schools — more than $230 million since 2017 to create over 1,000 new seats and 3,150 seismically safer seats across the district. That funding has supported seismic upgrades at Mountainside and Argyle secondaries, a seismic replacement and expansion at Handsworth Secondary, and new seats underway at Cloverly Elementary and Lynn Valley Elementary.

North Vancouver School District board chair Antje Wilson said the project reflects both local need and a broader shift in how schools are being built. “The addition responds to the needs of the growing community, while demonstrating innovative approaches to building schools more quickly and sustainably,” she said.

The press release noted that provincewide, British Columbia has committed more than $7 billion since 2017 to deliver over 47,000 new student seats and 39,000 seismically safer seats — with more than 23,500 new seats and 33,000 seismically safer seats already complete.
