As many as 14,700 homes in North Shore are without power because of strong winds that damaged BC Hydro infrastructure.
Tanya Fish, media relations person at BC Hydro, said around 14,700 customers without power in North Shore – 14,000 in North Vancouver and 700 in West Vancouver.
“Crews are working on making repairs to our system, which includes restringing power lines and replacing power poles,” she said.
“We have all available crews working on repairs right now and have brought in additional assistance from our contractor crews.”
BC Hydro does not have an estimated restoration time for all impacted customers but crews are working to get as many customers back as quickly as possible, Fish added.
Once power is back, crews will continue to work to assess damage and complete necessary repairs in the area. BC Hydro is also reminding people that any fallen or damaged power line should be considered an emergency. Please stay at least 10 metres back and call 911 immediately.

Meanwhile, North Vancouver RCMP is urging extra caution on the roads. “Watch for black ice, and at intersections with the lights out, use four-way-stop rules. Please be very careful and help keep everyone safe this morning,” RCMP said.
