Part of Seawalk in West Van closed due to flooding

Staff report
January 13, 2021 10:03am

West Vancouver has closed parts of the Seawalk after heavy rain and strong winds caused local flooding, and power outages

The Seawalk is closed between 19th Street and 24th Street on Wednesday, January 13 due to flooding.

There is a tree down that has closed 15th Street between Esquimalt Avenue and Gordon Avenue.

Power outages in West Vancouver are still occurring.

Check the BC Hydro website for a list of reported power outages.

To report an outage, contact BC Hydro at 1-888-769-3766. If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres (about the length of a bus) and call 9-1-1.

Crews will be clearing catch basins and monitoring creek flows. Residents can help prevent flooding by clearing catch basins of leaves and debris.

Stay clear of rivers due to quickly flowing water and potentially unstable riverbanks, the district advises.

“Residents can call our dispatch line 24/7 at 604-925-7100 to report flooding and fallen trees on roads and sidewalks, and for emergency service to roads, parks, water, and sewer,” the district said.
