Police ‘in contact’ with armed man in Squamish

Staff report
September 28, 2021 7:22pm

Emergency response team and police officers are in contact with an armed man in Garibaldi Estates area of Squamish.

The police were called to the area around 3:30 pm when a man was seen chasing a young boy with a gun.

The child is now safe. There have been no injuries to anyone involved.

Cpl. Angela Kermer of Squamish RCMP said officials are trying to help the man.

“We need to speak to him in a safe environment, and we need to make sure he is safe and everyone around him is safe,” Kermer said.

“We need to determine how this is all started and how we came to where we are now and what we can do to support this person, and not just keep him safe but keep the entire community safe,” Kermer said.

She said it is an unfolding situation and no one has been arrested so far.

“Our emergency response team is on scene and we are dealing with this right now. This is an ongoing operation,” she added.
