North Vancouver RCMP are seeking dash cam and witnesses in a fatal collision involving a commercial vehicle and a dog.

On May 17th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. North Vancouver RCMP received a report of a dog run over by a commercial vehicle at West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue in North Vancouver. A man and their leashed dog were waiting to cross Forbes Ave. on the south side of West 3rd St. when a commercial vehicle made a turn jumped the sidewalk’s edge and ran over the dog. Sadly, the dog named Sweety did not survive its injuries.

After the collision, the commercial vehicle failed to stop and continued south on Forbes Ave. The commercial vehicle is described as a “dump truck” style vehicle with two dump beds as a trailer attachment.

“The owners of Sweety are devastated by the loss of their pet,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “Our investigation is ongoing and it is too early to tell if the driver intentionally fled the scene or if they had any knowledge of the collision at the time of incident.”

“If you were driving or walking near West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue on May 17th, between 10:50 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. and saw the collision, then please call us at 604-985-1311 and quote file #24-9578,” said Sahak. “Police are also asking anyone with dash cam or surveillance video to come forward. Your dash cam may have captured something. Please check.”
