Police seek info about graffiti vandals in Gibsons

STAFF REPORT
May 11, 2021 5:31pm

Sunshine Coast RCMP are looking for anyone with information about the identity of vandals who defaced public property in Gibsons.

Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) facilities and parks are being hit consistently by graffiti vandals. The most recent graffiti ‘tagathon’ hit the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.

The estimated cost of removing the graffiti will be $5,000.

“The total bill for the clean up of this graffiti and other recent graffiti at SCRD parks is going to cost an estimated $5,000 – a cost that is ultimately shouldered by taxpayers. Some pictures of this graffiti are below – if you recognize this graffiti or have any information that could assist an investigation, the Sunshine Coast RCMP would love to hear from you,” said Ian Hall, General Manager of SCRD.

Constable Karen Whitby said police is confident there is a teacher, a parent or friend who will recognize the initials, drawings or style of the tags and we hope that they come forward with information to assist us in our investigation.

“This is not where we want to see tax dollars spent”, says Hall.

“We are grateful that the Sunshine Coast RCMP are actively looking into this vandalism and hope that it will stop in the near future.”
