The third annual Dundarave Hoedown was held on Friday, August 23, and all who attended had a good time despite the rain.

The Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association (ADBIA) resurrected the traditional Hoedown in 2022; each year, it gets bigger and better. The rain held off mostly, and kids enjoyed face painting, airbrush tattoos, slushies, a straw maze and everyone’s favourite, pony rides!

IGA and Harvest Project teamed up for the BBQ and served up hundreds of homemade burgers and delicious smokies and hot dogs. Aside from local restaurants, including The Bakehouse, The Red Lion, Bar Olo, Temper and Delany’s, we welcomed Casa Mia and Mangi e Bevi as vendors, providing gelato, pizza and pasta options. Once again, our local West Vancouver Firefighters hosted the beer garden, raising thousands of dollars for their charity from beer and popcorn sales.

Yes, we were apprehensive about the weather. It seemed like a miserable morning, but for the most part, the rain held off during the event, and it didn’t stop parents from bringing their kids out for this fun-filled family event.

There was the well-loved pie eating contest, line dancers, and music from The Dynamics and March Hare. The pie-eating contest is such a hit for both adults and kids. We had a dozen competitors in each category, and many spectators cheered them on. It is one of the highlights of the event!

The entire Marine Drive block in Dundarave was closed to traffic from 11 am to 11 pm, but businesses embraced the day, supported the event and enjoyed all the activities and vibrancy the Hoedown brings. I want to thank the community for supporting these local businesses year-round. The past year has been challenging and will continue with the new development underway. We encourage residents and visitors to continue supporting these businesses as we navigate traffic, parking and noise during the demolition and construction phase.

The ADBIA would like to acknowledge and thank this year’s sponsors, including MacLean Homes, Peake & Richmond Insurance, British Pacific Properties, Pierwell Dundarave, Westerleigh Parc, Rennie Marketing, Chartwell Retirement and Watson Goepel.

The Dundarave Hoedown 2025 will happen on August 22nd, so save the date!
