Crews from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation will be working to repair the pothole in the bridge deck on the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.
A Ministry spokesperson told the North Shore Daily Post engineers have assessed the pothole and have developed a plan to repair it. The pothole is located on the northern end of the southbound lane of the bridge.
Repairs will involve work underneath the bridge to reinforce the bridge deck with rebar and concrete, which requires a large amount of scaffolding for workers to reach the site, and the use of pneumatic tools to prep for the repair.
Work will begin this week, and most of the work will occur underneath the bridge deck. Any work on the bridge itself will be limited to night-time work to minimize traffic delays.
The work is expected to take place throughout the week and potentially into next week due to the time it takes to cure concrete in colder temperatures. While the work is ongoing, there is a steel plate on the bridge deck, and the bridge remains safe for travelling, the ministry said.
