A beloved piece of interactive children’s theatre is returning to North Vancouver starting April 24 and will run until May 3, 2026. Presentation House Theatre (PHT) will stage The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, welcoming young audiences back to an imaginative world of storytelling, music, and fairy tale adventure.

In a press release, PHT described the production as a “playful and interactive theatrical experience,” inviting children ages 3 to 7 to become part of the story, though families of all ages are encouraged to attend. The show returns by popular demand, following a previous run that clearly struck a chord with North Shore families.

The story follows a folkloric Old Woman searching for her missing children. According to the press release, after years of searching alone, she shares her journey with the audience and begins to discover how her story connects to others — including the story of the forest itself. Through guided play and imagination, audiences are invited to help her find a resolution that restores the forest and ends with a Happily Ever After.

Playwright and performer Linda A. Carson said the production is designed to engage both children and adults equally. “It is important to me that the piece, through direct address and sections of improvisation, plays to the adults as well as the children so everyone in the theatre gets an engaging theatrical experience,” Carson said.

“I believe theatre builds community and gives us humans a broader perspective,” she added. “It helps us put ourselves in other people’s shoes.”

Performances run Fridays at 4:00 PM, Saturdays at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and Sundays at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The press release noted that tickets are available on a sliding scale — $15 subsidized, $25 regular, and $35 full value — making the show accessible to a range of families.

The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe plays at Presentation House Theatre, 333 Chesterfield Avenue, North Vancouver.
