An investigation is underway into allegations of potential misuse of emergency funds at North Shore Emergency Management (NSEM), according to the District of North Vancouver.

NSEM, which operates under a tri-municipal governance structure involving the City of North Vancouver and the Districts of North Vancouver and West Vancouver, reported that concerns were raised to senior staff earlier this month.
According to the District of North Vancouver, which provides human resources support to NSEM, an internal investigation began immediately after the allegations surfaced. As a result, one employee is no longer part of the organization. The municipalities have not confirmed the amount of money or the scope of funds involved.
NSEM is responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness, response, and recovery across the North Shore municipalities. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether any policy or financial oversight changes are required within the organization.

I am not surprised.
I was reserved a room at a VERY expensive hotel, unbeknownst to me, by this entity.
My downstairs neighbour had a fire in their huge commercial space and as a result my condo suffered smoke damage. However, BCAA would not cover the entire amount (my hotel bill while a heavy-duty air cleaner was cleaning my condo) because it was my second claim in less than 5 years. The first claim was for a flood caused by my upstairs neighbour who turned her taps on and fell asleep, flooding my condo. So now I have to pay an annual surcharge of $400 for the next 3 years!!!!
Most people do not know this about condo insurance.
