Public consultation for redevelopment of Inglewood Care Centre

Staff report
September 16, 2020 1:10pm

Baptist Housing has received unanimous approval from the District of West Vancouver to proceed with public consultation as part of its rezoning and development application for the aging Inglewood Care Centre on Taylor Way at Inglewood Avenue.

Baptist Housing will host two public information meetings on Tuesday, October 6 and Thursday, November 5 next door at Har El, The North Shore Centre for Jewish Life at 1305 Taylor Way, according to a press release. A virtual public information meeting is also being organized for Thursday, October 29. Details for each session will be advertised and will also be available at baptisthousing.org/inglewoodredevelopment.

Baptist Housing, a registered non-profit organization operating 21 seniors residences in B.C., purchased Inglewood and took over its operations last February. A multi-phase redevelopment and expansion of the property is planned with BC Housing providing $15.5 million in funding for the redevelopment. Baptist Housing will be requesting $9 million in federal funding from CMHC under its affordable housing program to add to the $22 million invested by Baptist Housing. The total investment into Inglewood will come to close to a half billion dollars including acquisition costs and redevelopment costs.

The project will be the first of its kind in British Columbia to provide a “continuum of care” consisting of housing and care where seniors can age in place. This new community will be a combination of long-term care residences, assisted living, independent living and life lease residences which include hospitality services, affordable rentals for seniors, and onsite staff housing.

The first phase planned is the building of a new Long-Term Care residence on the same site, to replace the existing 230 bed LTC building built in 1963. Rezoning is needed for four adjacent residential lots on Burley Drive which have also been acquired to be consolidated with the current Inglewood property. Current Inglewood Care Centre residents will be able to remain in their present home until the new care residence is complete.

Baptist Housing then intends to further develop the balance of the property in phases to build the additional varieties of seniors housing.

Once completed, the new Inglewood “continuum of care” will integrate every available level of housing and care for seniors.
