Resident-only parking permit project in Horseshoe Bay

Gagandeep Ghuman
January 24, 2022 11:14am

Two District of West Vancouver councilors are bringing forward a notice of motion to restrict parking in Horseshoe Bay for residents.

The motion for a resident-only parking permit pilot project is being brought forward by Mayor Mary-Ann Booth and seconded by Councillor Craig Cameron. The motion will be discussed at a Council meeting today.

The motion calls upon the District staff to implement a pilot project for one year to allow resident-only parking on:

Nelson Avenue, from Bay Street to Douglas Street;

Nelson Avenue, from Argyle to Chatham Street; and

the north side of Bruce Street, from Royal Avenue to Nelson Avenue.

The motion states that many of the older homes in Horseshoe Bay have single-car driveways, which means residents have to park their second vehicles on the street.

However, the residents are often unable to park their cars near their homes, particularly during warmer months and summer weekends due to visitors parking.

The current parking regulations in Horseshoe Bay don’t always deter parking violations by visitors, and ticketing has not adequately addressed the issue, the motion states.

The idea is supported by the Western Residents Association and the owners and managers of the three largest businesses in Horseshoe Bay.

Establishing resident-only parking areas may also reduce some of the work load for the bylaw staff by reducing call volume, the motion states.

    My doctor’s office is in Horseshoe Bay. I live in Ambleside. Where are his patients supposed to park?

    Get real. Visitors to Horseshoe Bay will not like this, and nearby residents won’t either.

    This mayor and council is the worst ever… they want to make difficult for us all.

      There is a paid parking lot immediately behind the medical office that can be used. There will also be many new spots available in the Westbank development on the waterfront.

    This is a ridiculous pilot program…. Residents don’t have any where to park their 2nd and 3rd vehicles? Go green!
    I guess you’re going to wage all business taxes for local biz! Don’t worry they’ll be moving soon enough!!!!
