Resident tests positive for COVID-19 at Amica Edgemont Village

STAFF REPORT
April 24, 2020 4:24pm

A resident at Amica Edgemont Village has tested positive for COVID-19.

The resident first exhibited symptoms on April 19 and was immediately tested. At the recommendation of Vancouver Coastal Health, the resident was transferred to hospital for treatment.

“As the resident had already been in isolation in their suite, and only interacting with team members wearing Personal  Protective Equipment (PPE), we consider the risk to other residents to be low,” Amica said.

As a precautionary measure, four team members who may have had contact with the resident have been sent home with pay for 14 days.

None of these team members are experiencing symptoms. This new confirmed case is the only current resident case of COVID-19 at Amica Edgemont.

Two workers at the Amica Edgemont Village tested positive for COVID-19 on April 18. The first one is a housekeeper who last worked at Amica Edgemont on April 9. The second one is a maintenance worker who last worked on April 13, and tested positive the next day.

Both are now recovering at home with pay.

As a precautionary measure, three more workers who may have come in contact with the positive workers have now also been isolated for two weeks with pay.

“We continue with our extensive COVID-19 containment measures including universal masking for all team members and full PPE for those who are in contact with isolated residents, enhanced cleaning, physical distancing, closed common areas,” Amica said.
