The discarded skin of what appeared to be a bear cub found in Beaverdell, BC, has prompted non-profit The Fur-Bearers to issue a reward to assist an investigation.
The Fur-Bearers learned of the case on social media when photos and a description of the incident on Smoker Road were posted on the The Beaverdell/Carmi Post-Its Facebook group in the final week of 2019.
The non-profit says it is unclear whether the Conservation Officer Service has formally begun an investigation.
“There is much we don’t know, but the simple act of the skin of an animal being discarded in such a manner is disturbing on its own,” says Lesley Fox, Executive Director of The Fur-Bearers.
“We believe that a reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person(s) responsible may help the community begin discussing what happened – and reporting what they may know to the Report All Poaches and Polluters line.”
The reward is currently set at $1,500.
The Fur-Bearers will provide updates to supporters on the status of the investigation as it becomes available at TheFurBearers.com.
