Road closures and ‘significant’ traffic delay in West Vancouver

November 27, 2019 11:07am

High winds overnight knocked over trees and downed power lines in the district, causing outages in the community.

District of West Vancouver citizens can expect ‘significant’ traffic delays because of a traffic light outage at the intersection of Taylor Way and Marine Drive.

Meanwhile, detours are in effect at the 3600 block of Marine Drive due to a tree down across the road.

The 250 and 253 buses may also be delayed, district said.

As many as 700 homes in West Vancouver are out of power as of now, while 14,000 homes are without power in North Vancouver.

“Crews are working on making repairs to our system, which includes restringing power lines and replacing power poles,” said Tanya Fish, media relations person at BC Hydro.

“We have all available crews working on repairs right now and have brought in additional assistance from our contractor crews.”

BC Hydro does not have an estimated restoration time for all impacted customers but crews are working to get as many customers back as quickly as possible.

Crews will continue to work to assess damage and complete necessary repairs in the area. BC Hydro is also reminding people that any fallen or damaged power line should be considered an emergency. Please stay at least 10 metres back and call 911 immediately.
