The Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise is inviting the community to donate blood. The club is partnering with West Vancouver Foundation and the West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce for a blood donation event that also has the support of Mayor Mary-Ann Booth.
The event is on 26 May at the Congregation Har EL between 1 pm and 7:45 pm.
However, donors have to book their time slot in advance. Loat said it’s his understanding that there is a shortage of blood when compared to the projected needs of hospitals. “We all have it in us to give, and it is repeatable and it costs nothing. It saves lives and benefits many in the community and we don’t know when we may need it,” he said.
He urged the community to actively take part in this event, and noted that one in every two people in Canada are able to donate blood but only 1 in 81 actually do. Many Rotary clubs across the country are strong supporters of Canadian Blood Services and the Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise has now also joined these ranks and is a Canadian Blood Services Partner for Life.
“It is what Rotary does best. We seek ways and means to support those in our community and others in communities around the world. We have further Blood Donor opportunities planned for November and February,” Loat said.
