Seaspan has been recognized for environmental stewardship by the Port of Vancouver by receiving a Blue Circle Award. 2021 marked the the sixth year in a row that Seaspan has won the award.

The Blue Circle Awards recognize companies that go beyond the basic environmental requirements. For marine operators such as Seaspan, that includes commitment to reducing emissions and conserving energy, as well as active participation in the Port of Vancouver’s EcoAction program, which encourages marine operators to reduce their environmental footprint by reducing greenhouse gases, air contaminants and underwater noise.

“Year after year, our mariners and management teams implement initiatives that make a real difference, including expanding battery capacity in our new and existing ferries, exploring low carbon fuel alternatives such as electrification, biodiesel and renewable natural gas for our fleets,” noted Daryl Laws, Environmental Manager at Seaspan. “We’re also incorporating operational and engineering measures to help protect the marine mammals that inhabit BC’s coastal waters and actively support the Port of Vancouver-led ECHO program.”

Seaspan says it is proud to support the Port of Vancouver’s EcoAction Program and its overall vision to be the world’s most sustainable port.
